Through close reading and frequent writing, students develop their ability to work with language and text with a greater awareness of purpose and strategy, while strengthening their own composing abilities. Course readings feature expository, analytical, personal, narrative, and argumentative texts from a variety of authors and historical contexts. Agenda APTP #18 : Diction Multiple Choice : “Self Reliance” • Hazlitt’s “On the Want of Money” Rhetorical analysis : “Reapers” Homework Vocab ex. 3 (due Friday) 11 sentence analysis of Hazlitt Today in class we looked at Sandra Cisneros, “Tepeyac” and identified the effect of her choice of diction. In our discussion we established that “dusty” implied stillness and spacious rather than moving and in a cluster. We also said that the baldness of the light bulb meant that it was standing on its own and undecorated.
