- 11 sentence analysis of Hazlitt
Today in class we looked at Sandra Cisneros, “Tepeyac” and identified the effect of her choice of diction. In our discussion we established that “dusty” implied stillness and spacious rather than moving and in a cluster. We also said that the baldness of the light bulb meant that it was standing on its own and undecorated.
Abuelito under a blad light bulb, under a ceiling dusty with flies, puffs his cigar and counts money soft and wrinkled as old as Kleenex.
— Sandra Cisneros, “Tepeyac,” Woman Hollering Creek and other Stories
Before answering the class contributed questions, we analyzed the text and came to the conclusion that William Hazlitt is arguing that without money, one will live an unhappy and miserable life.
